I’m taking part in the Brighton marathon on April 6th 2025 in order to raise funds for Palestinian aid. The charity I have chosen to donate to is Islamic Relief Ireland.

Simmering tensions in the Middle East appear to have tipped into an unprecedented escalation, worsening the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Struggling civilians once more face the horror of major airstrikes, with a rapidly rising death toll and hundreds of thousands of people displaced with nowhere safe to go.

In the past 15 months, at least 46,707 people in Gaza have been killed, which includes about 18,000 children. The death toll means that one out of every 50 people has been killed in Gaza. Many analysts and rights groups believe the real number killed is far higher.

The strikes are thought to have forced more than 1,600,000 people to flee their homes. Seeking shelter in dozens of schools, they urgently need food and other basic survival items.
