Running in Recovery for Cindy

Do you know this gem!? I sure am grateful I do! Would you please help me show our gratitude through your support?! After running a half marathon in February, I was asked by more than one person, “Are you running for a cause?”. My first response was no, but I soon realized that I do run for a cause. I run for mental health and personal growth. I run to push myself and to take care of the body I have been given. I haven’t always looked primarily at physical activity as “a blessing”, but through training, good days and bad days, I realize that I am completely blessed to be able to run. I am able to walk. I am not in chronic pain. I am blessed everyday that I can stand up out of bed. My recent training has had me praying for a cause that would push me through the hard times and focus on a way that I could “run for another”. My prayer has been answered, and my cause is to give back to the person in my life that has made an irreplaceable impact in my life, as well as SO many others: Cindy Cole.

Cindy is one of the largest contributors in support of my sobriety and growth and has a passion for those that are suffering with some of life’s pains and upsets.  Cindy has led the way for so many individuals in their recovery and self development through ministry, therapy, and living the life that displays what can happen when you push through the hard times and have faith. She recently made a comment to me from something she had read: “Recovery is about connection”. Because of recovery and Cindy's guidance throughout the years, I am able to connect not only with loved ones, but with those that are in pain, lost, and seeking a connection. Cindy has a servant’s heart and strives to help people find freedom from traumas, addictions, hurts, habits and hangups.

Throughout the last year, Cindy has had numerous health complications and has been on a rollercoaster of doctor visits, diagnosis, pain, sickness, numerous testing, and emotional ups and downs. As of recently, Cindy has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, and after 4 months on his preferred protocol, Cindy's specialist has referred her to seek consultation and evaluation (and most likely treatment) in another state with a nationally recognized specialist. To the average observer, you really wouldn’t know that she is in pain most of the time, tired and pushing through, because she desires to help others and pushes through so that she can be present for those in her life. With the latest diagnosis, Cindy and her amazing husband Mark, will be looking at even more medical bills and travel costs to seek treatment. Unfortunately, almost all of the medical expenses to treat chronic Lyme Disease are out of pocket expenses, not covered by insurance.

I am asking that all of us that have been blessed, or know someone that has been blessed, by her heart, perseverance, and passion for others, to please join me in helping relieve some of this financial stress. I will be running in the Oklahoma City Marathon on April 29th, for Cindy! Please share with me this powerful blessing of connection and relationships, by “connecting" your gratitude and support to someone that gives so much to everyone around her.

I would appreciate you sharing in support of someone that has helped keep me following the principles of my program of recovery. I thank you for considering this critical need.

Thank you, Thank you Thank you!
With Love and Appreciation, Courtney
