I’m Valerie, a very unfit mother of two who has definitely let exercise fall to the bottom of the priority list! But with just 5 weeks to prepare, I’ve decided to run a 6-mile race to raise money in support of my friend Warren, who is currently battling stage 4 oesophageal cancer.

Warren is a young man and a devoted father to two young children. Anyone who knows him will tell you he’s the kind of person who always shows up for others and puts his family first. Despite being dealt an incredibly tough hand, he is fighting tooth and nail with determination and courage.

Right now Warren is in Germany seeking specialist treatment that offers hope. Unfortunately this treatment is private and comes at a very high cost. The financial pressure of travelling and paying for this care is enormous, and he needs every bit of support he can get to keep fighting.

I’ll be honest — I’m not much of a runner, so completing 6 miles will be a real challenge for me. Putting myself out there to raise funds is also outside my comfort zone. But compared to what Warren and his family are going through, it feels like the least I can do.
