This London landmark half marathon is so much more than a race for me. I’m taking on 13.1 miles to raise money for a charity that supports children and families affected by tumors and cancer.

My daughter Carlotta was diagnosed with an optic pathway glioma, a rare type of tumour that can affect the optic nerves and, in turn, a child’s vision and development. Hearing the words “your child has a brain tumour” is something no parent ever imagines having to face. It has brought uncertainty, worry and challenges that have changed our family’s life in ways we never expected.

I’m running this half marathon to help raise awareness and vital funds for a charity that provides support, information and hope to families like ours. Every donation to the brain tumor charity no matter how big or small, can help make a real difference to children living with tumors and the families walking alongside them.

The training will be tough, but it is nothing compared with the challenges my daughter has already faced. Every mile I run will be for her — for her strength, her courage, her future, and for all the other children and families affected.
