Running for Stevie #neverforget
Hi guys! Thanks for taking the time to check out this fundraiser!
I’ve heard it said that things are not really true until you say them out loud…so here goes! On Sunday 3rd October I will be running the Belfast Marathon for the first time on behalf of the Stephen Clements Foundation, in memory of my big cousin Stevie! Why run the marathon?…it’s a question I get asked a lot, but the answer is simple – it’s my way of giving back and feeling part of something worthwhile. This will be the first time I have ran this sort of distance since a bad skiing accident almost 6 years ago threatened to end my running career, so that in itself is a challenge. But the bottom line is running the marathon and being part of this is something that Stevie will never be able to experience and so I want to do it for him!
As most of you know we lost Stephen in Jan 2020 in the most tragic of circumstances…we never saw it coming…it is still hard to admit what happened and most days we live in denial. A brilliant, intelligent, witty, and beautiful soul was ripped from our grasp leaving a gaping hole that can never be filled. To all of you lovely people of Northern Ireland who knew him or listened to him on the radio, he was a charismatic cheeky chappy whose witty banter gained the affection and admiration of many notable people from all walks of life. How he got away with half of the stuff he shared on air is beyond me but it worked, and with Cate at his side they became a mighty duo bringing so much fun, laughter and love to the airwaves in our little country. To us, his family, he was just Stevie, a son, a brother, a best friend and daddy. He was fiercely loyal to not only us, but his job and his charitable work. He gave of his precious time freely and willingly, making sure to be an advocate for those less fortunate than himself.
The Stephen Clements Foundation was born out of a desire to keep Stephen’s memory alive and help create his legacy for many years to come. We want to help and support local charities and organisations that were close to his heart. His journey was only beginning…we are here to help finish what he started! I hope you’ll consider helping me reach my target in any way that you can…by lining the streets and cheering on every one of the runners taking part next month, or even by sharing this post!
