MADRID MARATHON FOR SEPSIS AWARENESS

Currently, 5 people will die every hour from a misdiagnosis of Sepsis. Sepsis kills 25,000 children each year in the UK, and 1/4 of all Sepsis survivors suffer from serious, permanent and life changing after-effects. Sepsis is the primary cause of death from infection and causes more deaths than prostate cancer, breast cancer and HIV/AIDS combined. In the developing world, sepsis accounts for 60 to 80 percent of lost lives per year in childhood. However, if diagnosed fast enough, Sepsis can be stopped by anitbiotics.  As a Sepsis Survivor myself, I feel passionately about raising awareness of the disease and helping in any way that I can. Therefore, now that I have my health back, I will be running the Madrid Half Marathon on  March  29th 2020, would appreciate any donations for such a wonderful and necessary cause.

MY STORY:
A year ago, I stepped on a sea urchin in Barbados, and a series of unfortunate events later, I got invasive streptococcus A in my calf, and then Sepsis in my body. After a misdiagnosis and 6 hours in the waiting room, I was told I would lose my leg. Luckily after time in ICU and 8 operations later, I was told I was going to keep my leg, but that wouldn’t walk again for 6 months and would need serious rehabilitation. So many people lose their lives to sepsis, especially young adults and children. The mental and physical effects of Sepsis and GAS still affect me, but I am back on my feet and healthy. Not many people are so lucky.  Please help me raise awareness, as with your donations, Sepsis UK can help educate health professionals and also support survivors.
