Ava’s 12km Run for Auntie Sal & The Walton Centre

Hi! I'm Ava Price, and this year I'm running 12km as part of the HBF Run for a Reason. I'm running with a very special person close to my heart — for one of my mum’s best friends and my amazing Auntie Sal, who lives all the way in England.

Sal has been through an incredibly hard time over the years with relentless chronic back pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia and many failed spinal surgery's (27) just out of bad luck! Each one an attempt to find relief and regain some quality of life. Can you even imagine?

A few years ago, she also started feeling raging facial pain and she said it was “like a never-ending, throbbing toothache,” then she made the extremely brave decision to have brain surgery to release some pain. Sadly, it didn’t work the way she had hoped. But through it all, Sal has never stopped fighting, smiling, or trying to live her life to the fullest, being positive through all the pain. She inspires me every single day.

Throughout this journey The Walton Centre has supported her to try to reach a better life. The Walton centre is UK’s only specialist hospital for neurology and neurosurgery.

Why I'm Fundraising

Sal and I both want to give back to the people who helped her through the pain and to the people that made a difference, the brilliant team at The Walton Centre.

They are not only one of the busiest Neurosurgery Divisions in the UK, performing thousands of surgeries each year, but they also lead in research and treatment of complex neurological conditions, including headaches, migraines, and facial pain. Their mission is simple: to deliver life-changing care (and they do).

Every single donation — big or small — will help make a difference for someone like Sal.

I'm hoping to raise some money for her and give back to the Walton Centre to help anyone that has been through the same as Sal.
