Running for RUN: Trail Bois in Nepal

We are Alex Crossley and Jason Cooper, and together we are the Trail Bois (https://www.instagram.com/trailbois/ ).

Originally from South Africa, we have been living in Hong Kong for a number of years. The last two years have been dedicated to running the beautiful trails of Hong Kong. Trail running has become an important part of our lives and we have jumped at almost every race and opportunity that has come at us here in Hong Kong. The idea of a mental and physical challenge that would push us to our limits has long been brewing.

We had been thinking about a daring and challenging race for a while and when we came across this 3-day stage race in Nepal, we knew we couldn’t pass it up. It is a race that presents a unique challenge due to its altitude (ranging from 1000m (3280ft) - 3800m (12467ft) above sea level), and the element of running over consecutive days. On top of that, it will be taking place in one of the capitals of trail running, the Annapurna mountain range. The race will take place over 3 days, covering an average of 26km (16 miles) each day.

The idea to use this race and trip in general to raise awareness and money for a worthy cause seemed to follow naturally. We also didn’t have to think long and hard about which organization we wanted to partner with.

The charity we have chosen is called RUN, www.runhk.org.  They are a non-profit organization that works to rehabilitate refugees, predominantly women, in Hong Kong through sport and education. These people have fled their home countries due to civil, political and environmental crises and have come to Hong Kong looking for a better life for their families. The hard truth is that Hong Kong is a very challenging place for refugees for a number of reasons. RUN is using the power of running to Rebuild their mental and physical health, Unite as a community and with the local Hong Kong community and Nurture each other through sport, food, friendship and education. The organization has mentorship, leadership, sports and educational programs all aimed at giving refugees the tools they need to live a productive and meaningful life.

Our aim is to use this race and the GoFundMe platform to raise awareness and funds for this very deserving cause.

Your donations will help pay for education, childcare, meals, transport, track fees, sports shoes and bathing costumes.

We have partnered with RUN because we believe in what they are doing -  we believe in the power of sport to change lives. We hope you do too. If this is something you feel strongly about we would appreciate any contribution. In addition to supporting RUN, a small portion of the funds will also go towards some of the costs associated with the race, partially covering our travel expenses and race registration (70% of your donations will go directly to RUN, 30% will help make this dream a reality).

Another way to show your support would be to share our campaign online and help spread the word.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
