Running for Love, Friendship, and Research

In September 2020, our friend, wife, and mother of two sweet kiddos, Megan Baldwin, was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Due to the location of cancer, treatment needed to start quickly. Megan went through 16 rounds of intense chemotherapy in October. While receiving a chemo infusion in November, Megan and her family were forced to evacuate their home due to a fire. The family was required to stay in a rental, so smoke abatement could be completed as doctors were worried about Megan's presence in the home with an immunocompromised system.

Chemo ended in February of 2021, and in hopes of the tumor responding to chemo, Megan had surgery to remove it in March. Unfortunately, the cancer was still alive and did not respond well to chemo, so three surgeries in a row were required to get clear margins, followed by 30 days of radiation.

In July of 2021, Megan started oral chemo pills, but after having covid in September, her immune system was shot, and she had to take many breaks from treatment to let her body heal. In January of 2022, her skin started to show signs of cancer returning, and a biopsy in February confirmed their family's worst fear; the cancer was back in her chest wall.
Megan now has Triple Negative Breast Cancer (a type with very few treatment options) and is considered Stage 4. She has recently started a clinical trial at UCSF in March and is praying that her cancer responds well, as so far, it has been pretty resistant to any conventional treatment.
Megan is trying to stay physically and emotionally fit through this and hopes to run the Reno Tahoe Odyssey in June. This will be shortly after receiving her third dose of chemotherapy. Our dear Megan is a mother of a three and five-year-old and has a wonderful supportive husband, Pat. They give her so many reasons to fight. Megan is praying that she can fight this latest diagnosis with conventional medicine and diet, exercise, meditation, prayer, and the loving support of my friends and family.

Megan's running mates would like to use this platform to raise money to support Megan and her family during this time of treatment. Megan requests that a portion of funds be dedicated to research and local community organizations that support women with breast cancer.

We would appreciate your support and would love to see you at the Reno Tahoe Odyssey finish line this June 4th.
