Hi everyone.
Let me introduce you to Elliott Walsh a 5 year old boy from Montreal. I first met Elliott when he was a baby visiting New Zealand with his Mother Vicky (BFF of my wife).
I've seen Elliott grow up during our visit's to Montreal and now even more so since moving to Canada.
The last time I saw Elliott was at my daughters birthday back in May. The whole family were there with Vicky, Marc-Andre (Dad), Elliott & Charlotte (Little Sister).
This is when we discovered that Elliot was having some tests performed due to suffering from seizures during the night.
Since then Elliott's condition has significantly worsened and he has now been diagnosed with landau-kleffner-syndrome.
Elliot has since lost the power of speech and is struggling to communicate with his family & the outside world. In addition he can no longer do the things he once loved like playing with friends, snow shoeing due to fatigue.
As once being 5 I can only imagine how difficult this would make everyday life and how utterly frustrating this would be.
As a parent I can only imagine how incredibility difficult this would be to witness your child go through.
Vicky & Marc-Andre are looking at all options but the current treatment is heavy medication or brain surgery. And there is no guarantee of improved results.
Currently the family is down to a single income as Elliott sometimes has many frequent medical visits to attend (17 last month!). It became impossible for both parents to remain in full time work.
I am running the New York Marathon on the 6th of November. And I am dedicating this run to Elliott and hoping to raise some funds for his family.
The funds raised would go towards paying the existing bills which are piling at their door currently. And hopefully giving some relief on the family unit.
If you can spare $1 per mile or $5 it all matters and would be welcome. Thanks for your time and I hope you can help me reach my target on such short notice!
