Marathon for Diabetes Research 26.2 ATX 2.19.23

Running the Austin Marathon on February 19, 2023, will be inspiring for various reasons. Not only will it be the first marathon I complete, but I will be fundraising for an organization my biggest supporter in life has a direct association with. I am proud to run my first marathon to raise money to benefit the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation, Inc. My mom was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes for an entire year and then correctly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes nearly ten years ago. These various diagnoses of an illness which runs in our family changed her and our lives forever. I looked to take care of my best friend during my high school years in a role reversal moment as she had been and continues to take care of me as my mother. I am so proud of my mom Mary's strength and resiliency in more ways than one, but primarily how she handles this adult-onset diagnosis of a life-altering autoimmune disease. With a cure yet to be found, I am passionate and excited to fundraise for this organization. 

The mission of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation is to ensure the availability of funds necessary for the full exploration of all the scientific possibilities that diabetes research is generating. The Research Foundation's sole purpose is to raise gifts for diabetes through individuals, corporations, and philanthropic organizations. 100% of the funds raised in this GoFundMe will be directly donated to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. I am using this page to see our direct impact as a larger team until I cross the finish line on February 19, 2023, in Austin, Texas.
