‍♂️ Running for Clean Water — London 10K 2026

This September, the six of us — Shan, Ehsan, Saif, Niyaz, Zeeshan and myself, Mahir — will be taking on the Vitality London 10k in costume to raise £2,100 for seven water wells in Bangladesh through MATW.

We’ve been running for coming up to two years, and we wanted to use something we genuinely enjoy to make a difference to people who need it.

Why water?

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.”

— Sahih Muslim

Providing water is also specifically mentioned in the Sunnah as a great form of charity.

When the Prophet ﷺ was asked which charity is best, he ﷺ replied:

“Providing water.”

— Sunan Abi Dawud

A water well can therefore be more than just a one-time donation. It can provide a source of clean water for a community for years to come, Insha’Allah, making it a means of ongoing charity.

‍♂️ Our challenge

On race day, we’ll be putting on our costumes and taking on the 10K together.

We’ve spent the last couple of years running for fitness, personal goals and enjoyment. This time, we want to turn those miles into something that benefits others too.

For many of us, turning on a tap and having access to clean water is something we never have to think twice about. For communities without reliable access to safe water, it can be a daily struggle.
