Hi, it’s John and Emma Rath,
Over the coming months we will be taking on a series of half marathons, starting with the Belfast Half Marathon, which holds very special meaning for us. This year’s race falls on the exact date that John’s father (Emma’s grandfather) Patrick Rath passed away from a rare form of blood cancer, 43 years ago at the age of 41. Running on that day is our way of honouring his memory while raising funds for two causes that are significant to us:
1. Zambia Immersion Project 2026:
John teaches at the Abbey Christian Brothers’ Grammar School in Newry, which has been running the Zambia Immersion Project for over 20 years. In 2026, senior pupils and staff will travel to Zambia to help build hospitals and schools, and raise funds to support families of disadvantaged children. This life-changing initiative brings education, healthcare, and hope to communities who need it most.
Cancer Focus Northern Ireland:
Cancer Focus NI provides vital support to cancer patients and their families, funds pioneering research and works to prevent cancer across Northern Ireland. Supporting them is a deeply personal mission for us, especially as we remember Patrick on this anniversary.
Your donations - no matter the size - will be split evenly between these two incredible causes. Together, we can make a difference both here at home and across the world.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
John & Emma
