Running Bear
Teddy ran her equine supply business longer than her worsening dementia allowed her to do so successfully. So by the time she was taken into an assisted-living place, there was less than no money to pay the $2200 a month cost of room and board.
I have been her companion for about the last third of our lives. Her misfortune is mine, but my savings will be gone in a few months, unless I can find or create income beyond my pensions. My being a paraplegic and left to live alone with our pets doesn't help. Dementia is normally worsening over time, with no cure.
Yes, a little long-term care insurance may be received, and Florida Medicaid would eventually pay (only) part of the cost, if I could get her qualified. It pains me to have to seek charitable help, but I seem to have little alternative. The $26,400 goal I set is arbitrary -- just the present monthly cost, times 12 months. That is no complete solution, but it would be a start. Thank you.
