Running and Reading for Robert

Hi! As most of you know I am runnning the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2019 in honor of my father, Bob Moran who passed away last year on April 10, 2018.

My dad was an avid runner having completed the Boston marathon twice in addition to countless road races as well as his daily run, which he never missed until his cancer started to take over. Despite never being able to run with my dad, he never missed a road race I participated in and was extremely proud to see me complete three half marathons while he was able to. I know he won’t physically be there to cheer me on, but I have no doubt he will be with me every step of the 26.2 miles. 

In honor of his year anniversary approaching I am reaching out to fundraise for the organization to which he requested donations be made last year after he passed. My father was an active member in the Dorchester community where he was born, raised, and raised his own family. He also valued the importance of education. PROJECT DEEP is the Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program that focuses on serving inner city kids with tutoring in all subjects to help set them up for success in the future. My sister and I both participated in DEEP both as students and later as tutors. The organization fosters a love for reading and grants students free summer camp admission as long as they read a predetermined amount of books of their choosing by the end of the school year. My father gave to the city that raised him and even after he passed wanted to continue his passion for serving the community. I’m hoping to continue to pass on this legacy by reaching out on his anniversary and tackling the marathon course to honor him.  

I know my dad would want to thank each of you for being so supportive of me as I made my way through the past year, it hasn’t been easy and I couldn’t have done it without all of you.
