Running a marathon for Ann!
Hello all, for those of you that don’t know, my names Kian.
I’ve lived next door to Ann and Cheryl for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately after years of ill health, in May 2024, Ann was diagnosed with grade 4 Glioblastoma. In short, that is a fast and aggressive tumor, which there is no cure for.
Ann was told that the tumor was very aggressive and the only surgical option was to debulk the tumor. And in June 2024, Ann had brain surgery.
Following the surgery, Ann was put under the care of Farleigh Hospice. At that time, they provided family support on a one to one basis, and also gave an opportunity to go to a group they ran called the Lantern group, where Ann and Cheryl met other people with life limiting illnesses. They were both surprised too find not only did they enjoy the group meetings, but also have made friends with others there, some who they still keep in contact with and they find ways to support eachother like no one else can.
Although the brain surgery was quite successful, further treatment for Ann has been withdrawn as the risks outweigh the benefits.
Ann is now being cared for at home and is under the hospice at home team.
After knowing Ann and Cheryl since I was 2ft tall, and knowing how genuine and caring they both are I wanted to do something for them both.
Ive given myself 16 weeks (15 now writing this) to work myself up from 5k to running 26.2 miles which is the distance of the London marathon. This will involve continuous intense training, controlling what I eat, and the willingness to stick to it and complete it. But I have that motivation there, to do it for them!
I asked what charity would they like the donations too go to, and they said Farleigh hospice. It has been the most invaluable service too them both, that they would be lost without. They have been kind, caring, supportive and intuitive too their situation. And without Farleigh hospice, they don’t think they would have been able to cope.
So whatever it is, £1, £100, £1,000,000 or even a share, it’ll all help too spread awareness and raise money for a charity that really get very little funding for all the hard work they do.
I will be posting updates on my Facebook page regularly. Let’s do this
