Run LBC Gilbert had a stroke
Gilbert suffered a stroke with partial paralysis of his right side on Tuesday, August 4th. He needs our support now more than ever. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Gilbert, you’ve certainly spotted his Run LBC shirts and hats all over the city of Long Beach, California and beyond. Gilbert is the man behind the making of this iconic Long Beach apparel, and he’s become a local icon himself by spreading his love for the city and it’s people through his big smile and warm laughter.
While a stoke can be a devastating diagnosis, Gilbert is keeping his spirits up and we’re hopeful that he will make a full recovery. He’s been in the hospital since the stroke, including three days in the ICU, and his care will continue at a rehabilitation center this week. Amidst constant attention from doctors, daily sessions with physical therapists and speech therapists, and around-the-clock nursing care, Gilbert has enjoyed visits from his family as well.
Despite a good prognosis, the cost of hospitalization and rehab will be exorbitant. 100% of your contributions will go directly to Gilbert for his use towards hospital bills and his life post-stroke as he adjusts to his new normal. There’s no great time to have a stroke but no better time for us—Gilbert’s friends and community—to rally behind him as he does the hard work of recovery.
My name is Andrea and Gilbert is my friend. We met almost 15 years ago when I was a newly minted RN. Since then, Gilbert has been a steady source of support for me in my career and life. He’s a gem of a human—so full of love, positivity, good cheer, and the ability to make everyone he encounters feel valued. I’m a long-time Long Beach resident, and in my mind Gilbert and Run LBC are as synonymous with Long Beach as the Queen Mary or the Grand Prix. Whether you own a Run LBC item or not, I hope you can help by donating any amount to his recovery effort. Let’s get Gilbert back out in the city he loves!
