Hi, I’m Helene. In April 2026, I’ll be running the Rotterdam Marathon for PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder).

PMDD is a severe, hormone-based mood disorder that can cause anxiety, rage, depression, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Why this matters:
  • Over 30 million women and AFAB people are affected worldwide.
  • A 2024 global study found that 82% of people with PMDD experience suicidal thoughts every month, and 1 in 4 have attempted suicide.
  • Despite the urgency, a diagnosis takes on average 12 years.

There’s barely any research. Most people, including many doctors, don’t know it exists.

So I’m running 42.2 km (+ 100s more during training) to raise €10,000 for two incredible organisations fighting for change:

The PMDD Project (UK) – supporting awareness, research, and advocacy.
Stichting PMDD Nederland – building community, visibility, and care locally.

Each will receive €5,000.

BUT: I can't do this alone.

You don’t have to run a marathon to be part of this.
