Beth’s Across The Years Fundraiser

Donation protected
This is a fundraiser to send Beth Connolly to Across the Years six-day race in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The event takes place at the end of December 2019, through early January 2020. Entry fees, cost of flights, etc, will go up periodically. Now, allow me to tell you some things...

Hi folks. My name is Jake. In 2015, I ran across the USA. When I began, I had $70 in my pocket. My backpack broke on Day 2. I made it across the continent and raised money for charity, because of people like Beth Connolly; athletes and dreamers with similar dreams, who were willing to empower me in the pursuit of mine. We met during that crossing, and she has been both a friend and avid supporter ever since.

Anytime I check in with Beth, I see proof that she is thinking of a world bigger than herself. I'm particularly impressed by how she uses her love of running as a platform to talk about important subjects, and support charitable causes. Beth was one of those who donated to help me get to Desert Solstice Invitational in 2017. She would say I don't owe her anything, and I must agree. Someone like that inspires this kind of support.

Across the Years is a 24hr-6 day race. This year they've added a 10 day event to mark a special occasion. I intend to fly Beth from her home on the East Coast, pay for her transportation and lodging before and after the race, rent her accommodations at the event (you can rent a tent, cot, bag, space heater, etc.), purchase a few pairs of her favorite LUNA sandals for training and the race, and stock up on her preferred nutrition products and other gear. In return, Beth will run under the Bare Sole Project banner and dedicate a line in her social media training posts to Branson King, who needs money for surgery. He has Moebius Syndrome, and cannot breathe or swallow on his own. I believe the story of Beth's journey to ATY will be a better tool for fundraising than mine. If I can get her 2.5k, she'll net at least 25k.

I've asked you all for a nice fat number because I want to not only pay for what * I think * Beth needs, but also to give her some extra cash to spend on opportunities that will benefit her training or make her more comfortable during the race. That said, it's an expensive undertaking and there is not a lot of wiggle room. If you know me, you know I'm a decent networker. I am donating my time and skills to procuring things for less-than-full price, to give Beth as much extra resources as possible.

When we exceed the $2,500 goal, Beth and I will close the fundraiser and send any change to the Branson King Medical Fund. Please contact me [email redacted]  for itemized budgets, if you would like to help without sending cash. If anyone wants to see what Beth uses to train and race, I guess you'll have to follow her on social media! https://www.facebook.com/beth.c.horton.3

Beth is the kind of athlete I want to support, and I hope you will too.

Warmest regards, and gratitude,
