Hey everybody, our Cross Country Team needs your help. Our teammate James Phillips has been and is going through a lot of trouble with cancer. Ever since 6th grade, James was diagnosed with cancer in his left arm. In 8th grade, James was re-diagnosed with cancer in his left arm again, forcing the hospital to remove his left arm to stop the cancer. While it wasn’t supposed to spread after this, it did. James has received news that there is an early sign of cancer in his lungs, which a surgery would be able to help remove. If anyone needs a good childhood, it’s James. Anyone who knows James knows that he’s an amazing kid, responsible, kind, determined, and a good teammate on our cross country team. James qualified for Adidas Nationals in the freshman 400-meter dash and got that chance taken away, along with the chance to finish the indoor season, due to this cancer. Our goal for this fundraiser is to help James Phillips have a successful surgery and be able to get back on the ground running in no time. But there’s a twist. For every 100 dollars donated, we will run a mile between 50 runners (for example, $60,000 would equal 12 miles per person, $100,000 would equal 20 miles per person). We will have a month-long period to allow donations to go through, and after a month, the running team will try to cover all of the miles donated. While one goal for donations is to help James’s parents pay for the surgery completely, which would be $15,000, we also think it’d be really good if we were able to set up a college fund for James too, so the Phillips family has one less thing to worry about in the future. So $60,000 would be the goal, and if any more comes in than that, the rest will be donated to St. Jude’s to help other kids dealing with cancer. While donations would be very nice, we’d also like you to keep James and the Phillips family in your prayers.
