Run to Walk Challenge
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Ieuan and I am going to run/cycle the length of the UK (874 Miles) to raise money for physio and prosthetics for my dad and others like him who have lost limbs.
My dad (Haydn - He is the one in the photo with his thumb up) had kidney failure when he was 24 years old and since then has had lots of different health issues due to his kidney transplant. These range from weight gain, lack of mobility, joint issues and mainly a lack of a proper immune system. As his immune system is so weak he often got ill during the winter months and suffered more from common colds etc.
Needless to say when COVID struck we were all not too surprised that he ended up contracting it. After a spell in hospital, he recovered but was left with issues to his foot which meant the blood was not getting back to his toes. Eventually, his toes died from this lack of blood supply and my dad had to have his leg amputated below the knee.
He is now recovered from the surgery and is keen to get back on his feet (or foot). To do this he requires a lot of serious physio and a full adaption of our house. Unfortunately without a lot of money to pay for a private physio, most amputees cannot get this treatment and end up struggling to get the use of their limbs back.
My aim with this challenge is to:
1. Raise awareness for all of the many thousands of people across the UK who lose limbs on a daily basis.
2. Raise enough money to pay for, not only my dad's physio and house adaptions but other amputees who are also in need of this help.
3. Set up a long-standing challenge that can be repeated for years to come to continue to raise money and awareness.
If you can spare anything for a donation to this cause I would be hugely grateful. I am going to document my entire journey from training to the event through youtube so hope you can all follow along from home and maybe join me on some of my 14-day challenge in January!
Thanks!
