On May 1, Sherry Meador, 55, Sulfur Okla., long-time ultrarunner, will begin her attempt to break the women’s record for running across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City.
The current women’s world record (54 days, 16 hours, and 24 minutes) is held by Sandra Villines who ran 3,125 miles starting on Sept. 7, 2017 and ending on Nov. 5, 2017. She averaged 57.8 miles per day.
Sherry has purchased a Chrysler Pacifica van to be driven as her crew vehicle, but otherwise will be depending on hotels for sleeping and showering during the run. There is no budget for an RV as Sandra and also Pete Kostelnick (men’s world record holder) was able to use.
The total estimated costs for the run will be at least $30,000, so Sherry is going into debt to accomplish this run. Right now, her goal will be to do 62 miles a day, and her current route is 3,100 miles. As you can imagine, the route will have to be adjusted for issues such as closed roads, weather, and unsafe conditions.
Regardless of whether Sherry attains the record, she will finish the run in whatever time she can and count that as the huge accomplishment that it is. Any contribution you might be willing to make to support this run is greatly appreciated, and no amount is deemed too small.
We hope you will follow Sherry on her journey via her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/runsherryrun2021. There will be daily updates and if you’d like to send her messages of encouragement either via page post or DM, those will be shared with her on a daily basis. She also has an Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/runsherryrun2021/ and a blog at https://runsherry.com/.
