Run for Young Lives 2024 - YOUNG LIVES vs CANCER

On the 27th September around 800 pupils from Winchester College will compete in sponsored runs of distances between 6 and 21 km to raise money for Young Lives Against Cancer.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, their life can be overcome by fear, grief, and uncertainty. The charity we are supporting, Young Lives vs Cancer, aims to help families with children suffering from cancer by ensuring they receive the financial support they require and are entitled to.

This September, we are hosting the Run for Young Lives charity event, aiming to raise £9000 for Young Lives vs Cancer, 9000 GBP could pay for Five families to stay one month each at Jean’s House, our Young Lives vs Cancer “Home from Home.” Jean's House Southampton in Southampton, this is free accommodation near hospital. Or, if needed. This amount could instead cover 346 hours of support from a specialist Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker. They provide tailored care to each family which is practical, emotional and financial.

But that's not it, we could instead provide 90 Registration Grants if needed first offered to a family when we meet them. Our research shows that on average a family needs to find an extra £700 a month whilst their child is on treatment due to the extra costs involved such as travel costs.Collectively, pupils (and teachers) will run a total of 6000km on the day, participating in individual distances up to 21km! With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of children affected by cancer, providing them with the resources they need to fight this disease and stay strong during their treatment. Your donation will go towards providing emotional support, financial assistance, and other resources that will help these families cope with the challenges of cancer.
