Running 145km for the Sol y Luna Foundation

My name is Thomas Schilter, I'm 21 years old and I was born in Cusco, Peru.

For 11 years, I was a student at the Sol y Luna School - a school that is part of the Sol y Luna Foundation, and was created to give children from all backgrounds access to education..

Since I was very young, I have been passionate about adventure sports. This has allowed me to connect with nature and push my limits.

On August 26th 2024, I will face one of the biggest challenges of my life participating in one of the most prestigious trail running competitions in the world: the UTMB TDS in France.

This 145 km race has more than 9,000 metres of positive elevation gain and will be a real physical and mental challenge for me.

However, my motivation goes beyond the competition itself. I am running with the goal of raising funds for the Sol y Luna Foundation, which has dedicated 25 years to improving education in Cusco.

My connection to this foundation runs deep; I have been part of it since I was born.

Most of all, I had the privilege of studying at the foundation's school, where I received a quality education and values that have shaped the way I am today.

The majority of the students at the Sol y Luna School were born into extreme poverty and are studying thanks to the support of individuals and sponsors.

Now, I have the opportunity to give back in some way for all that the Sol y Luna Foundation has done for me, and for so many other children and young people in Cusco.

Facing this race not only entails an extreme physical challenge, but also a commitment to a noble and meaningful cause.

Every step I take in those 145 km will be dedicated to those who have benefited from the tireless work of the Sol y Luna Foundation.

I am excited for what is to come and determined to cross the finish line knowing that every effort was worth it.
