Run for Sudan: One Africa, One Heartbeat, One Hope

Sudan as a country has been forgotten by many around the world along with the daily hardships its people face. The United Nations has named Sudan the most devastating humanitarian and displacement crisis in the world.

To be honest, I only recently became aware of the war in Sudan. But once I started learning more, I couldn’t look away. I spent hours researching Sudan’s history from the Ottoman-Egyptian rule, to the British-Egyptian consortium, to the fall of al-Bashir’s presidency, and finally to the current conflict between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former ally Mohamed “Hemedti” Dagalo of the Rapid Support Forces.

It left me wondering: why hasn’t this been properly highlighted by the media?

Why has the world gone so quiet about Sudan, a country rich in natural resources, including oil, and with access to the Red Sea, yet still in so much pain?
After all the global attention for “Free Palestine” and “Free Congo,” you might be asking: why Sudan? And why should I care?

Honestly? That’s fair. Sudan may feel far away. You may not feel a direct connection to the conflict. But I woke up one day and decided to care. And that alone was enough to take action. I’m African, and I’m deeply passionate about Africa. Sudan struck something in me. I started asking myself: What more can I do? That’s how “Running for Sudan” was born.

I’m already training to run the Victorian Waterfall Marathon 42km. But I realized I don’t want to run without meaning. This run should stand for something bigger than myself.
If I reflect on who I am, it all makes sense: I care about African issues, I advocate for women, and I love running. I’m known as the girl who wakes up at 6am to run and who constantly talks about gender inequality. So why not combine all three?

With my sister and two friends, I co-founded NDAKI kids, a platform that promotes diversity, self-empowerment, and cultural exchange. We’ve partnered with an incredible NGO called WADI (https://wadiorg.org) a Women Advocacy and Development Initiative dedicated to promoting the rights of women and youth in Sudan and beyond.

All the money raised will go directly to WADI (https://wadiorg.org/). There are very few NGOs left operating on the ground in Sudan, and WADI is one of them.

Our vision is simple: “Do what you can, with what you have.”

You can stand by or you can stand with those trying to make a difference. And in the grand scheme of things, supporting this cause is one of the most human things we can do.We want to raise €5,000 for WADI. We’ll also be selling T-shirts, and 100% of profits from those will go to the same cause.

Please donate if you can. And even if you can’t share this. Every bit of awareness counts.

Help fund my run. Help fund hope. Together, we can bring light to Sudan.

Thank you <3
