It’s been two years since we last took part in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon and collectively raised €10,257 in Kayleigh’s memory. We donated the sum to The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation (TAAF), based in the USA. (taafonline.org)
We’re delighted to be coming together again for this year’s VHI Women’s Mini Marathon to benefit two charities; TAAF and Carlow Town Community First Responders.
The Aneursym and AVM Foundation (TAAF) are an American based charity involved in promoting and funding vital and universal research, beneficial to all cases across the globe. Research is the only thing that could have saved Kayleigh’s life, so we strongly believe in supporting the science.
Carlow Town Community First Responders (CFR) is a newly formed voluntary organisation, which Kayleigh’s dad, John, and cousin, Shauna, are members of. Once the group is fully trained and they have the necessary equipment to run, they will support the National Ambulance Service in emergency call-outs. The local nature of the group means quicker responses than what a typical ambulance service can achieve, allowing a period of critical care in advance of an ambulance arriving. All members are volunteers, and all equipment (defibrillators etc) has to be sourced from fundraising. Had it not been for first responders from Dundrum Town Centre, Kayleigh would have died the day she fell ill and not have had the chance to fight that those first responders allowed her. We believe it would be a great tribute to Kayleigh to be able to donate equipment in her name, that will go on to give those in emergency situations a better chance of survival.
The VHI Women’s Mini Marathon will take place on Sunday 3rd June, the Bank Holiday weekend. It’s a great day out even for anyone not up for walking or running as well, so we’d encourage anyone and everyone to join us as a supporter.
