Hi, I’m Dimitri. Last year, I was diagnosed with an aggressive case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome that left me completely paralyzed. I was placed in an induced coma for five days, needed a tracheotomy to breathe, and a gastrostomy tube to eat. Recovery felt impossible, but thanks to an amazing team of doctors and physiotherapists (and a lot of hard work) I’ve not only learned to walk and talk again, I’ve got my life back to where I was pre-diagnosis... and what’s more, I’m strong enough to give back. This November, I’ll be running the Athens Marathon to mark this milestone and help the community that got me through the most difficult period of my life.
I’m raising funds for the GBS/CIDP Foundation International, whose work supports patients like me and advances research into these rare neurological conditions. Every donation goes toward helping others in their fight for recovery, including:
- Offering crucial support and resources to patients and families navigating these conditions.
- Funding vital research aimed at finding effective treatments and potential cures.
- Providing educational programs to raise awareness about GBS and CIDP.
Together, we can make a lasting impact in the lives of those affected by GBS and CIDP.
