Run for BOB

Hello my friend,

My name is John Stevenson, and most people will know me as the owner of my family pub, Mary O'Connell's (Mary O’s), in Ballincollig and also from rugby. My fellow Mary O’s Flying Running Club members – Barry Stevenson, Pat Buckley, Jason Doyle and Cathal Dwane join me in this fundraiser.

One of Cathal and my former Highfield teammates, Bryan O’Brien (Bob), has been recently hit by a devastating diagnosis, MND. He is just 41 years of age and has three young kids. You can read all about his story here -Bryan GFM

While it's been years since we all played together in Highfield, the camaraderie and team spirit have stayed with us. So now we’re reaching out to ask for your support as we embark on a big challenge — the Cork City Marathon on 2 June all in the name of helping raise funds for Bob.

All funds generously raised will provide important assistance, such as covering home modifications, assisting his mobility needs, as well as exploring cutting-edge medical interventions and treatments.

Last year, I faced my own health struggles. At 41 and weighing 23 stone, even a 5km walk seemed impossible. But with the guidance of Paul McCarthy and his wellness seminars, I set out on a journey to transform my life.

It started with small steps, quite literally. Walking became my therapy, and soon, I found myself running. Last year, I crossed the finish line of the Cork City Marathon’s 10km race, a milestone I never thought possible. And now, I've set my sights even higher – my first full marathon... all 26.2 miles of it.

But this isn't just about my personal achievement. It's about making a small difference in Bob’s life. So every step we take in training and every mile we run on race day will be dedicated to Bob. But we can't do it alone. We need your help. Your donations will be a huge support to Bob and his young family.
