My name is Michael, and together with our long time childhood friends, I am creating this GoFundMe page for our dear friends, Erwin and Janine Espinosa, whose baby boy Lucas is currently fighting for his life in the Neonatal ICU.

Lucas was born extremely premature at just 25 weeks and 5 days, weighing only 765 grams. He arrived far earlier than anyone expected due to complications from pre-eclampsia, and since that day, his life has been a daily battle for survival.

Baby Lucas is currently facing multiple medical complications including Respiratory Distress Syndrome, presumed sepsis, an Atrial Septal Defect in his heart, Interstitial Pulmonary Emphysema, and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. He is expected to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for at least three more months, connected to machines that help him breathe and keep his fragile body stable.

Erwin & Janine’s Journey

Erwin and Janine have shown incredible strength and faith throughout this overwhelming experience. Every day, they remain by Lucas’s side, praying, hoping, and fighting alongside him. They are dedicated parents, emotionally worn but spiritually strong, doing everything they can despite the unimaginable stress and the growing medical expenses.

Their love for their son is limitless — but the hospital costs, medication, and travel back and forth to the NICU have created a huge financial burden that they cannot carry alone.

I am humbly asking for any amount of support you can give to help ease the financial weight on Lucas’ parents. Your generosity will go directly toward covering Lucas’ ongoing NICU expenses, medications, and the essential care he needs to keep fighting.

Running for Lucas – My Personal Mission

To help raise awareness and funds, I will be running the Dublin Half Marathon on September 21, aiming for my personal best — a sub-95-minute finish — in dedication to Baby Lucas. Another close friend from UAE, Mark James, will also be running Almaty Marathon in Kazakhstan on September 28, aiming to cross the line with a 3:45 time, to support this cause.

Every mile we run is for Lucas — a symbol of hope and persistence. We believe that with collective prayers, generosity, and effort, Lucas will grow stronger day by day.
