Byron Bays Ferris Gump has run around Australia in his thongs and now he's running to Cairns on the water and still in his thongs!
For 3 years Ferris has dreamt about this adventure and now he is taking it to the oceans on his modified "Peddle board" which now has life lines, anchor points, hydration system, reflective tape, safety rope and more.
Ferris is running on water to support Ocean Conservation for the Seabin Foundation and all proceeds go to have Seabin's and educational programs installed in marinas along the Queensland coast.
The goal is to have Seabins installed in marinas along the way and to start the educational and data collection programs of how much plastic is in our waterways and how much plastic is going into our oceans! Then to start on the solutions so that plastic cannot make its way into the water in the first place.
The journey will take around 3 months and Ferris will be relying on coastal communities to keep an eye out for him and to radio ahead to the next marinas on his adventure. Ferris is on VHF radio channel 16 if any boats out there would like to get involved.
SAFETY AT SEA IS CRITICAL
Seabins Chairman David Turton is a navigator, meteorologist and highly skilled in weather will be assisting Ferris via mobile phone, VHF radio, Sat phone and EPIRB to ensure safety is a major factor in this adventure.
Safety equipment onboard include Flares, Mirror, Medical kit, Life lines, Life Jacket, Lanyard/harness, Tow rope, Nav lights, VHF radio, Sat phone, freeze dried food, 15 litre hydration system plus more.
