525000 per year. 10,096 per week. 1,442 per day. 60 per hour. 1 per minute.
These are the suicide rates among men. Men are all too often told that it’s “unmanly” of them to struggle with mental health, and that they have to struggle in silence. This suppression is what leads to such high suicide rates (men are 4x more likely to commit suicide than women)
During the month of June, Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, I will be running 60 miles (one per hourly death) to raise awareness for this important cause. 100% of proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Stay For Life, a non-profit based in Wells, Maine that provides key resources and support to men who need them, who might be afraid to reach out.
This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart, and I hope you will come along for the journey. Every donation, repost, and share this fund gets is a small (yet crucial) step towards the ultimate end goal of solving the mental health crisis our society faces.
Check in on your loved ones. Not just the men in your life, but everyone. And if you are in need of immediate support, call OR text 988. This is a 24/7 hotline that will get you connected with support fast.
Every voice matters. Everyone’s life has a purpose. Everyone struggles, and it’s important to support each other when we do. The battle with mental illness cannot be won alone.
