Run 2 Raise Awareness 4 Mental Health in Sport
Mental Health is a prominent issue in many walks of life, especially with our youth, and sports athletes aren't immune to this. Sometimes athletes may even have more pressures and perceptions that require a stronger need for mental health practices.
In December 2022, a brilliant young athlete who trained with Coach Lindsay tragically took his own life; we will never know for certain what Abakar Kazbekov (London Knights OHL) was going through personally, but we want to make sure that other young athletes learn positive traits from his passing and others like him. "Abby" was a wonderful person to be around and left his impression on many people in TAG.
We are raising funds to Donate to Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport (CCMHS), and will continue to find ways to make sure that young athletes have a voice and can be heard, and helped.
Coach Lindsay is going to run for 24 hours pushing for 4 marathons (170km). The mental toughness, resilience and coping it takes to stay focused and working (running) when your physical, mental and emotional states are all telling you to stop is a good comparison/insight to what dealing with Mental Health issues can be like, and how individuals can adapt to cope and manage themselves and BE. BETTER. Difference is, a 24 hour run is very temporary in comparison.
PLEASE HELP US ACHIEVE OUR GOAL: The event is "That Dam Hill" in London Ont (where Abakar played OHL). The course is a 2.25 km loop, run repetitively for 24 hours. To make 4 marathons Coach Lindsay will have to Run 75 laps. So we are pushing to raise $7500 - OR $100 per lap.
The CCMHS is a registered charity supporting the mental health and performance of competitive and high-performance athletes and coaches. The CCMHS is the first Centre in Canada to offer collaborative sport-focused mental health care services designed to help athletes and coaches achieve their performance goals while preserving their mental health and well-being. The CCMHS rests on 3 pillars of success: Integrated Care, Research, and Community Engagement.
