Cancer: is there anything worse? It seems like a specter stalking us all. Everyone I know has their own unique, scary relationship with cancer. Personally, cancer took my grandmother before I was able to know her. And it threatened to take my mom as well, when she was diagnosed with single cell myeloma some years ago. I was blessed to watch my mom go through the amazing care system provided by the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, and make a full recovery through the embrace of cutting-edge medical science. I only wish this kind of care was available to everyone that needs it.

I too worry more and more about getting cancer as the years go by, trying to govern my behaviors to minimize the chances of getting it, but also feeling helpless to control the inevitability of colliding with cancer in some shape or form.

This is why I want to raise money for the American Cancer Society by running 100 miles in the month of October. It is empowering to use my love of running to make even a small difference in funding cancer research.
