Hello Facebook friends and fam.
My best friend, ESA, constant companion, and canine soulmate Hazel was just diagnosed with Mastocytoma, a type of skin cancer that can be very aggressive. This has come as a huge shock - she is only five years old and has always been very healthy and active.
I don't need to tell this to the people that have met her, but Hazel is an absolute angel. Everyone she meets is a friend, from strangers on the street to tiny kittens. She is incredibly gentle and loving. I've only had her for three years, but it feels like she's been there for me through everything - the death of my granddad, heartbreak, a difficult move, a bout of depression. Losing her at such a young age is unfathomable to me. She brings so much joy into my life.
On August 9th, Hazel had a small lump on her side removed for biopsy. It came back as a grade-2 mast cell tumor, indicating a potential for "locally invasive metastasis." She has two other growths similar to this that haven't been removed.
Funds will go toward removing Hazel's remaining tumors, pain management during aftercare, and a possible consultation with an oncologist to discuss the potential for chemotherapy (depending on the grades of the remaining tumors). I'll only pursue this route if the oncologist and my vet believe the possibility of remission is high.
I made a promise to Hazel on the day I adopted her - to protect her, love her unconditionally, and do right by her always. I don't think I could ever bring myself to ask for money for myself, but Hazel is more important than my pride.
Please help me save my best friend!
Thank you in advance,
Flannery & Hazel
