We are Fidel Chiu and Tony Wang and we have worked with John Liu for many years. Work is where we spend most of our time and the team is like a family. We feel obligated to help John and his family in this moment and make sure his daughter can experience as many things as she can.
Please help us to reach this goal!!!
Dear All Friends,
We’d like to share some information about John Liu family issue.
On April 5, John Liu's 6 year old daughter Ruitong felt abdominal pain without any specific reason. They took her to the local hospital but the doctors didn’t find anything serious and just sent them home with some medicine. The next day, Ruitong still had abdominal pain, so they took her to a better hospital (Chengdu #1 People’s Hospital). After more tests, she was diagnosed with Viral Myocarditis. Ruitong suddenly started to deteriorate into Fulminant Myocarditis, with signs of mental dysfunction, cold limbs, cardiogenic shock and other conditions. The doctors told them her heartbeat could stop at any time. To save her, she was transferred to another hospital immediately West China Hospital, the best hospital in southwest of China.
On April 6, the ambulance took Ruitong to Huaxi Hospital at midnight. At that time, her liver, pancreas, and heart functions had been severely impaired, and her life was at risk. After the doctor's rescue work and large doses of hormones, Ruitong’s condition was slightly stable. However, just when John and his wife were a bit relieved in visiting their daughter on April 8th, her heart suddenly stopped beating. The doctors had to use ECMO to assist her heart and lungs in the extracorporeal circulation to maintain a heartbeat and blood circulation, in addition to a ventilator to keep her breathing.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a treatment that uses a pump to circulate blood through an artificial lung back into the bloodstream. ECMO is extremely expensive in China and the cost is not covered by insurance. The boot cost is $9000, and the daily operation fee is $3,000. That period was the hardest time for John’s family, for fear of losing their daughter any minute. Thank God, Ruitong’s heartbeat and breathing was recovered… which was really a miracle.
However, the doctors quickly discovered damage to Ruitong’s brain. Due to the cardiac arrest, she suffered hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. She was transferred to a Rehabilitation Hospital for the hope of consciousness recovery. After recovering for about 50 days, she is still unconscious. Her condition got worse with a recurrence of secondary epilepsy, and they could lose her at any time. To save her life, they took her to the Neurology department in West China Hospital again.
Now, Ruitong’s life is not in danger. She is under treatment in West China Hospital. If her condition continues to improve and stabilize, she will be transferred to a Rehabilitation Hospital. But no one knows how long it will take for the brain damage recovery, or how much it will cost for treatment.
For the last 4 months, not only has John spent all his saving, but he has been taking all the suffering upon himself, without telling his team members about his daughter’s serious condition.
The CD CoE members just learned about this after John’s family is seeking donations from a Chinese internet APP “Qing Song Chou” to continue the treatment for their daughter.
Let’s help John, for his daughter, for life, for hope
