We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated, shared, and supported this fund in memory of Rui Lopes. Thanks to your extraordinary generosity, we have now received enough to cover Rui’s funeral and cremation expenses in full, as well as the safe return of his ashes to his family in Lisbon.

In addition, we are humbled to share that we will be making a donation to Marymount Hospice in Rui’s honour — a small way to give back to the wonderful team who cared for him with such compassion in his final days.

Rui’s family, friends, and all of us who knew him are deeply moved by the kindness shown. Your support has brought comfort during a very difficult time, and we are truly grateful.

We are heartbroken at the passing of Rui Lopes, who died peacefully on the 12th of November 2025 in the care of the wonderful staff at Marymount Hospice, Cork. Rui was a kind, gentle soul who made Ireland his home, and he became a much-loved member of the Urlingford, Cork and Dublin community, and our team at Bernard Kavanagh & Sons & Barrys Coaches.

His family in Portugal are devastated, and with their permission, we are creating this fund to help cover:

• Rui’s funeral and cremation expenses

• The safe return of his ashes to his family in Lisbon

• Any outstanding costs relating to his care and arrangements

Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden on Rui’s grieving family at this incredibly difficult time. Any money remaining after expenses are paid will be donated to Marymount Hospice.
