Ruby Richey Ash is a wife, sister, daughter, mother of 6, grandmother of 5, and a recently retired law enforcement officer. 

Ruby contracted Covid-19 in early August of this year and has been hospitalized in Folsom, CA., with Covid Double Pneumonia since August 14, 2021.  

As a result of her illness, Ruby was given a 40% chance of survival a mere week and a half ago. Since then, Ruby has bowed her back and made massive progress against this terrible virus. Ruby was diagnosed to be virus free a few days ago and was just transferred out of the covid unit to concentrate on her recovery. 

However; the virus has taken its toll on Ruby and her recovery will be a painstakingly long road. She has been diagnosed with Double Pulmonary Fibrosis, which in layman’s terms, means massive scarring of the lungs. 

Ruby is looking at a double lung transplant to survive and is going to need to be transferred to Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA or UCSF in San Francisco,CA for her ongoing and future medical care. 

While Ruby does have a law enforcement retirement pension and health care coverage, it will not be enough to cover the expenses she will incur to get healthy and back to her family. 

The purpose of this GoFundMe request is to offset the medical cost overruns and to aid her husband Paul’s out of town travel and lodging costs so he can stand by Ruby and support her as she endures the grueling procedures ahead of her. 

The family knows time are tough for all of us and knows some may be best able to support Ruby through this journey emotionally, and that is certainly understood and needed. But if you are able and willing to assist with a monetary donation,  we want to assure you the money will only be spent to support the needs of caring for Ruby. The family is forever grateful for your prayers, well wishes, and assistance. We know we are blessed to have such a strong and supportive base of family, friends, and community.
