Rubidium Coffee Company

My name is Ryan Deramus, and I want to bring amazing specialty coffee to you. I would greatly appreciate your help and support starting my coffee catering company. I'll start off by telling you a bit about my love for coffee.

My journey starts off when I was in high school in Shreveport Louisiana. Starbucks was the only place I knew where to get a cup of coffee. At this time, I would swear up and down that I absolutely hated coffee and did not understand why it was something people drank... That was until a friend introduced me to Rhino Coffee. Rhino is a specialty coffee shop based out of Shreveport Louisiana, providing some of the best coffee I had ever had. I went to order and had no idea what anything was. I wanted to sound smart and act like I knew what I was doing in front of my friend, so I ordered a pour over. Little did I know this was a decision that would change my view on coffee forever. The barista proceeded to an oddly shaped glass pitcher of some sort and a gooseneck kettle. He began explaining to me the coffee he was brewing... "this is an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe that boast flavors of red berries and a wonderful floral smell..." I had no idea what he was saying, but I was intrigued. As he poured the coffee into my cup and presented it in front of me, it smelled like no coffee I had ever smelled before. I took the first sip... It was light and fruity, rather than dark and bitter. This is the moment that I began to realize: Coffee is amazing.

Ever since then I dove headfirst into the specialty coffee world wanting to learn more and more. I learned how to distinguish different flavor notes, what makes good coffee, the differences in all the coffee drinks, and any other information I could get my hands on. I moved to Houston and started working as a barista and got knowledge like no other from amazing baristas all around town. I have designated almost all of my life to coffee and want to make the dreams of young Ryan sitting in Rhino come true. I want to create a coffee experience that I can bring to the community so they too can experience what I felt.

The idea of a coffee cart is not one that is new by any means. There are a lot of amazing coffee catering companies all around the world. But I strive to create an experience unlike no other. I want to create an experience that you will never forget and establish connections with my community through coffee. I love teaching and showing my love for coffee to others and this cart will help make that dream a reality. I plan to bring my cart to other coffee shops around the Houston area to partner with them and create an opportunity for their customers to be offered extraordinary coffee catered. Working as a barista, I have gotten hundreds of questions asking whether or not we cater, and I have always had to say, "No sadly we don't". With Rubidium, I plan to partner with these coffee shops that don't have the time and/or resources to cater and allow them to finally offer it to their customers!

Coffee carts can be used for any occasion you can think of! Weddings, parties, office meetings, markets, etc. The list really is never ending!

Your donations will help me by covering the cost of initial equipment and the cart buildout, as well as various fees associated with the first event.
