Rubicon Theatre is a highly respected non-profit regional theatre company based in Ventura, California. The company’s mission is to provide innovative productions and outreach programs for the entertainment, enrichment and education of residents and visitors to the area. The company has received multiple awards, including the L.A. Drama Critics’ Circle special award for Sustained Excellence, Ovation Awards, and a N.Y. Drama Critics Circle Award. As the company was preparing to open its 20th Anniversary season with “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol,” the Thomas Fire ravaged the region, destroying more than 400 homes and structures in the area. The theatre’s home was spared, but the company has been unable to open the production on time because of mandatory evacuations of staff, cast and crew; lack of electricity; smoke damage; air quality; and curfews in the area. The company is now in a precarious financial position, having lost approximately $50,000 to date in ticket sales. Additionally, the theatre needs another $10,000 to rent air purifiers, clean carpets and upholstery, etc. so that the theatre is safe. Unfortunately, this is not an appropriate time to reach out to the immediate community with so many other human and social service needs. (Please contribute to those as well if you can through Ventura County Community Foundation.) Once the air quality improves and the show opens, the theatre will provide free tickets to first responders and the families of those who have been affected. The theatre is reaching out to those across the nation who believe in the importance of theatre as a force for good in our world. Please help Rubicon and help provide comfort and joy for the Ventura community during this holiday season.
