Bridge for Rubete, Rwanda
Buro Happold and WilkinsonEyre have teamed up to help construct a bridge across the Nyagakonyi River, and eight volunteers will be travelling out in May to lend their engineering and design expertise to complete this life-changing project.
The Nyagakonyi River is synonymous with missed opportunity; during the rainy season life can be cruel for the residents who live near the future Rubete Trailbridge location. Thousands rely on crossing the river to reach an array of critical resources and economic opportuinities. But when the rain comes the river becomes dangerous, and often deadly, to attempt crossing.
Most local residents turn back and don't even attempt to cross. As a result the communities become cut off from include the health centre and markets located on the other side of the river and children cannot attend school. The Rubete Suspended Bridge will provide safe, year-round access for the surrounding communities, providing the opportunity to empower the communities out of poverty.
Your donations will help pay for the materials, tools and logistics to enable us to connect 5,000 people to the daily essentials they need.
If we are lucky enough to exceed our target, donations will be used by Bridges to Prosperity to support their broader programme.

WilkinsonEyre and COWI's bridge from the 2018 construction in Kazabe, Rwanda, has made it possible for more local children to attend school, saving kilometers from their daily commute.
