On January 8, 2014 in Mammoth I was in a severe snowboarding accident that left me with multiple injuries. I shattered my talus in my right foot leaving me with 11 screws and one plate in that bone. I also broke my left ankle which was diagnosed as a pylon fracture as well as breaking my tibia on my right leg. I dislocated both knees. On my left knee I tore my acl, mcl, lcl, and my pcl and all ligaments were replaced with cadaver parts, as well as many screws. On my right knee I tore my acl, lcl, and pcl and those three were also replaced with cadaver parts. . I have severe nerve damage in my right leg, which is why I have to wear an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthotic). I was immiediatly taken to the hospital in Mammoth and was there for 5 days to stabilize my body. After I was stabilized I was transported to the Keck Medical Center of USC, and was there for the remainder of January where the rest of my surgeries took place. My doctors at USC performed miracles and a year and three months later I am proudly walking with a cane. I was in a wheelchair for 7 months, a walker for 4 months, and since have been using a cane with my left hand.
Since my accident I have returned to being a full time student again in August of 2014 and also worked waiting tables on occassion at my old job when my legs felt up to it. I am asking for some help from my family and friends financially because I have to have another two surgeries this summer in June, where my doctor will cut my heel bone and re-align it. He will also perform a tendon tansfer where he will be taking a tendon on the left side of my leg and transfer it to the right side of my leg. Both of these surgeries will hopefully straighten my foot out and prevent me from having to wear an AFO. These surguries will again leave me unable to work for awhile, leaving me broke, broke, broke with many bills etc. to pay.
