 My dad, Ruben, found a KIDNEY MATCH!!

Ruben has dedicated most of his life helping others & working hard to make the American Dream come true. On top of dialysis, Ruben continued to work 8-10 hours daily in order to satisfy his customers. He continues to work tirelessly to support his customers for excellent work. Rubens time has finally come to be on the receiving end.

After a year and a half of waiting and going in 4-5 hours of dialysis 3 times per week we discovered, Ruben’s youngest daughter, is a PERFECT MATCH.

 The projected date for the dual surgery is July 12th, 2024.

 During the recovery process, Ruben is required to take THREE months off from all physical activity. The recovery will be taxing both physically and financially. I also, imagine, all of this stress will take a mental toll as well. Within the three months,Ruben must go to his check ups. Ruben is required to go: three times a week at NORTHWESTERN in downtown Chicago. (1hr 15 minute drive) Each doctor's visit will be an excruciating, 4-6 hours long. As a business owner, Ruben’s welding shop will remain open. The stress & burden of trying to recover & make ends meet is an additional weight that a hardworking (read: stubborn) man, like my father, should not have to face. Ruben will need a little assistance with; Finances for his welding shop & medical bills. Ruben & his daughter are beginning a long journey to a beautiful destination. We are grateful & excited to have you with us along the way!

UPDATE: Ruben, has always been a private person, therefore when I started the fundraising efforts he was not happy- at first! After quickly realizing how many friends, family, neighbors & (STRANGERS) truly care, Ruben had a sudden spark in his eye for the first time in over a year.

From the bottom of our hearts, the Aburto family appreciates all the shares, calls, texts & donations..

NO ONE should ever have to see a loved one, let alone, a parent go through health challenges solo.

 June 17th, 2024 - Health update Please keep Ruben in your prayers. Ruben was rushed to CDH yesterday afternoon due to chest pains & inability to breathe.

 After an EKG was performed, studies found Ruben was retaining too much fluids in his heart && lungs!!! Doctors rushed Ruben to dialysis & was put on oxygen. After dialysis last night around 11pm, Ruben felt much better & was taken off oxygen. In order to gather more information & to ensure his heart is functioning properly, Ruben is set to undergo a heart catheterization at 1pm. The camera or (tube) will be inserted through the groin area.

Ruben will be closely monitored after, which requires ONE more overnight stay.

UPDATE- June 18th, 2024 5:30pm- Procedure, went well!!!!

The cardiologist changed the location of the tube insertion to the wrist for a faster and quicker healing of the artery. Heart looked ‘great’, no invasive heart surgeries required… we still need to speak with Ruben’s kidney specialist but it looks like we’re still on track for the dual surgery on July 12th 2024.

UPDATE- June 19th 2024 11:00am

Good morning everyone,

We spoke to Ruben’s doctor regarding yesterday’s results from the heart catheterization. Ruben was diagnosed with Diffuse coronary artery disease.

Doctors remain positive, & hopeful as we WILL move FORWARD with the Kidney Transplant!!!! Although the date has changed & we’re not 100% sure of new transplant date, Ruben’s doctor plans to work on strengthening his heart with more dialysis. Doctor’s want to relieve both, his heart & lungs, from retaining too much fluid.

ONE more overnight stay is required.

 Please continue to keep Ruben in your prayers.

Central DuPage Hospital

June 20th, 2024 8:00am 

Ruben was in such happy spirits when I walked in! 

This morning, Doctors start Ruben’s third round of dialysis this hospital stay. We’re still unsure when Ruben will go home. Doctor’s want to be extra cautious since Ruben’s heart is still under too much stress. His overall body fluid retention remains low. 

10:30am-

Doctor’s continue with their plans of aggressive dialysis.

Tomorrow, we will do the last round. Ruben’s body is still retaining too much water near and around his heart. His lungs had minimal fluids, thankfully! No oxygen required.

Good morning everyone,

Life gets crazy. I’ve been meaning to post a few updates…

Ruben is doing wonderful! Next doctors appointment will be August 8th to check Ruben’s heart and determine when the transplant will take place. 

Please keep Ruben in your prayers.  Overall health seems to be looking great but he is getting a little anxious not knowing any answers.
