Ruach International Christian School has ministered to children and families in Comayagua, Honduras through quality Christian education for the last 15 years.
Over the last few years, Ruach has faced several challenges rising from a bad economy and major changes in the Honduran government. The most significant challenges have come from substantial changes in education policy and tax law. Over the last few years, the Ministry of Education has placed several new and costly demands on private schools. They have made it difficult for schools to collect outstanding debts, saying that they cannot refuse service for failure to pay tuition. Their claim was that doing so deprives students of their right to an education, despite the fact that public schools exist for that purpose. This obviously encouraged parents that had other financial priorities to leave their children in private school while their money went to other interests. Additionally, taxes have skyrocketed, leaving many honest individuals, businesses, and ministries struggling financially. Together these changes have been a heavy burden and left Ruach in a difficult situation that we've only recently begun to conquer. We've seen improvements lately but now we have some financial damage to repair.
Our team has worked hard to overcome these issues thus far but this year has been extremely challenging, leaving us with a substantial deficit. That's why we are reaching out!
We are looking for friends who will help us raise $60,000.00. These funds will help us close the budget gap while we reset and re-tool for a new school year. Part of our strategy is to reduce our sensitivity to customs fees and delays through improved use of digital learning. Therefore, we will also use some of the funds to buy computer equipment for our classrooms. This will not only help us cut long term costs, but it will make us more attractive to parents and help us prepare children to succeed on an increasingly technical global stage.
We are looking to reach our financial goal by December 31st.
Honduras is in the middle of more financial turmoil than it has seen in many years. This has created a lot of insecurity in families. Ruach has been planted in Comayagua to minister to families through quality Christian education. Now more than ever we need your support to help us continue our work.
