Our rockets need fuel!
Rocket Theatre Lab is a brand-new Seattle-based theatrical devising company, and we're thrilled to be raising funds for our inaugeral production of "Challenger" at The Pocket Theatre this spring!
Train with teachers Christa McAuliffe and Barbara Morgan as they prepare to go where no civilians have gone before - space! Based on the events of the 1986 space shuttle disaster, join this all-woman ensemble of teachers, astronauts, engineers, and more from the interview room to the launch pad as they explore the heights of friendship, risk-taking, legacy, and our place in space. Never shying from the ultimate fate that media, politics, and technical malfunctions portend, Challenger is a passionate love poem to those who dared to go and their vision for the world through movement, song, and memoir.
Challenger was originally devised in 2012 by an ensemble of students at Central Washington University, and Rocket Theatre Lab will be adapting this moving show to make its Seattle debut for the 30th anniversary of the tragedy.
This is Rocket Theatre Lab's first show, so we don't have any pre-existing funds to draw upon. Originally we raised $1,000, and we've raised our funding goal to $1,500. Here's a cost breakdown so you know what you're supporting!
$500 : Rehearsal space rentals. Practice isn't cheap! We're purchasing time at Theatre Puget Sound, The Pocket, and Freehold Theatre. Our friends David and Catherine at InfinityBox have also kindly lent us their studio for free.
$25: Costumes! We need to make/thrift a few! We're also borrowing the large majority of our costumes from Central Theatre Ensemble and Cat McMillen!
$25: Props! We use them in this show!
$75: Set pieces! We're creating a collapsible platform and borrowing/renting some acting blocks (and a trampoline!) to create settings for our 31 scenes.
$50: Printing! We need to print a few posters and some cards to advertise our show, as well as programs for your hands every night of the show.
$75: We bought our domain name, www.rockettheatrelab.com for two years!
$850: We respect our fellow artists in the community, and would like to establish a model where we can give a small stipend to each of the actors and designers in our show as a token of appreciation for all that they've done.
That's about $1,600, so we're aiming for $1,500 and hoping that ticket sales will take us where fundraising can't. If we make a profit and have money left over , we'll use it as a starting fund for our next show and our growing company! We have some exciting plans for the future!!
What else can I do?
