Mountain biking has been a big part of my life for most of my life. There has always been something special about flying down a trail with my heart pumping and my mind focussed on each moment as the dirt whizzes past me. But until about 2 years ago it was always just something I did for fun.
Today it is much more. It's the window to my soul, the key ingredient to my happiness, my catalyst for outreach, and yes, it's still so much fun!
I upgraded to pro last year but didn't have the chance to race as one. This year, with a lot of hard work and help from sponsorships, I plan to race all summer long as a pro. I am excited as I am bound for the road, chasing the Pro GRT race series and setting my limits higher than the sun. I am a professional Downhill Mountain Bike Racer with a knack for big jumps and pushing my limits. I ride for Kona Bicyles, Deity Components, E*thirteen, and Crank Brothers.
Along with being a hardworking professional athlete, I am also a full-time Broadcast Journalism Student with an emphasis in Wildlife Science at Humboldt State University, as well as a part-time employee at a locally owned bagel shop, and a dedicated community member helping cultivate a larger mountain bike scene in Humboldt County. I am dedicated, self-motivated, outgoing, and super-duper enthusiastic!
In order to see my goals through, I have had to train hard but also plan hard. I have been reaching out to local businesses in hopes of becoming an ambassador for Humboldt County. Financially speaking, this trip is not easy. I have done my part in preparing physically and mentally for the race season, but now I need to reach out the community to ask for some help.
I have managed to raise some money from businesses, but I still need just a little more to see my dream through, aka cover fuel, food, and lodging costs. This is where you come in.
I know that helping a girl huck herself down mountain sides on a bicycle in the name of racing might seem like a funny cause to support, but I can assure you that this adventure means so much more.
I will be documenting every special moment of my travels as I tour the country making friends, riding trails, identifying birds, and learning about myself. It is the trip that will help define me as a journalist and as a professional in this world. It will also provide me with a unique and hands on way to network and evolve my knowledge as a coach and proponent for empowering women through mountain biking. This cause is a chance for you to help a girl with big dreams grow into the shoes she has chosen for herself; and in turn I will share with you my journey in depth, and become a positive voice and individual in the sport of mountain biking as well as in life.
And if you are not really in to sending cash my way that's just as well! I still invite you to join me in my adventure as I share every detail on my blog (links at the top and bottom of page). That is the support I am really in need of!
