Help Bean get better
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tori, I adopted Bean on January 15th, 2022. I was told by the adoption agency that Bean is a healthy, 3-year-old golden retriever/dachshund and needed a home. I instantly fell in love with his picture and put all my efforts into getting him home with me. Bean came from California and I know very little about his story. What I do know is that he was on the street, put into a foster home with other dogs and children, then transported to Vancouver by car, driving for three days straight. Bean arrived extremely underweight, dirty, with foul breath, and low energy. I took him to his first vet visit the same week he arrived, this is where I learned that Bean is at least 7 or 8 years old, most likely has worms, has a heart murmur, and needs an abundance of dental work. The next day Bean's energy plummeted. His breath became shallow and difficult, he could barely walk, had no appetite, and couldn't get comfortable lying down. I took him to another vet and found that Bean has pneumonia. He had fluid in his right lung and around his heart, he had an alarmingly high white blood cell count and very low protein in his blood. The vet gave Bean a diuretic and some medication to help him sleep- after a very scary night of listening to his shallow breaths and hoping Bean would make it, he woke up in the morning with some hope. He went back to the vet for two days, hooked up to IVs to receive antibiotics. Now, this all happened within 6 days of Bean arriving to me. Since then Bean has been home but his health issues do not end here. Bean likely has a kidney infection or disease, thyroid issues, and his teeth will need cleaning, extractions, and likely antibiotics for infection. With all of this, I have received very little help from the adoption agency and Bean wasn't checked by them before being adopted by me. I was prepared to spend on a rescue dog, but Bean's incredible story is too much for me to manage on my own, so I am asking for help from you. If you have the means, please donate to little Bean so I can continue getting him the help he needs. If we raise more than enough money, I will donate whatever is left back to a local adoption agency in need.
