We lost our mother on Sunday, September 20, 2015, due to complications from a stroke and chronic kidney disease. She was on dialysis 3x a week for 13 years...she was only 56 years old. Some may also be aware that I lost my job just 4 days before my mother passed away, so my family and I are dealing with a lot right now. I had actually spent the last month preparing to move her in with me on Friday, September 25, as her health was declining.
Even in ill-health, my mother was a missionary and usher for her church and volunteered on a weekly basis at several non-profit organizations, including Greensboro Urban Ministry and Reading Connections. Even in her pain & suffering you could always find her smiling, laughing and encouraging others to be strong.
We're setting up a GoFundMe account for final expenses, as the life insurance policy she had will not cover all that is required.
Funeral services for our mother, Dollene Mayfield, will be Sunday, September 27, 2015 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1310 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Greensboro, NC 27406. Visitation starts at 2:00PM, funeral starts at 2:30PM, repast dinner at the church following the funeral.
My mother requested that she be laid to rest next to her parents, in our hometown. Therefore, the burial ceremony will be Monday, September 28, 2015 at Blacknall Cemetery, 157 Ramsey Street (West Andrews Ave intersection), Henderson, NC 27536 at 1:30PM. Please contact us at [email redacted] for
