Help get my son home
Hi there, my name is sue light (mother of Liam light) and I’m fundraising to get my son back to England where he can get the right help and support for his psychosis he is experiencing in turkey (marmaris)
Liam was first diagnosed with psychosis in 2018 after 12 weeks of battling for help due to Liam living on the streets in london after believing that he was doing this for charity. Myself and other family members and close friends visited Liam every other day to make sure he was ok and pleaded for Liam to return to his home in West Sussex. Unfortunately Liam refused every time. When I visited london I asked for help from the emergency services to speak with Liam which they did but as Liam wasn’t a danger to himself or anybody around him no further action was needed. After 12 weeks of finding ways to get help for my son. I eventually spoke to westminister social services and they conducted a mental health act assessment for Liam and Liam then was taking to a place of safety for 6 months I had got my son back for a short while.
i filed a missing persons report in June 2020 to Sussex police as no one had had any contact with Liam and family and friends were extremely worried, due to Liam’s mental health detoriating again. Liam was working with the early intervention team in Bognor Regis and frequently engaged with his key worker. I called Liam’s key worker daily to ask how my son was which he explained there was no concerns and Liam was doing very well. I knew this wasn’t the truth because Liam had distanced himself from all family and close friends which Liam done when his diagnosis happened in 2018. I pleaded and pleaded with Liam’s key worker for a mental health act assessment to take place due to Liam’s relapse. From other people who Liam did speak to who had contacted me and described Liam’s behaviour I knew this wasn’t my son. Liam believed that his family were not his family and he had to get away to Los Angeles where he believes his biological mother (Paris Hilton) lives. This wasn’t the first time Liam had said these things and believes them. This as a mother destroyed me but I continued to speak with Liam’s key worker who kept assuring me he would speak with Liam and arrange contact between them. Liam didn’t want to engage he told his key worker that he was coping really well and no more support was needed. The key worker decided to then discharge my son from all services, again this broke my heart as I needed help for Liam. I continued to email, make phone calls and asked for friends to contact the early intervention team to raise there concerns too, nothing changed they didn’t care and it broke my heart. I believe that being a mental health support worker your in that job because you care about patients and want what’s best for them. In my sons case Liam was not cared for or thought about by the team.
Liam tried to catch a flight after they discharged him to Los Angeles to see (Paris Hilton) but luckily he was refused at the airport due to Covid restrictions. This yet again was reported to early intervention and nothing was done. They told me Liam had capacity and was 29 years old to make his own decisions but Liam didn’t have capacity to make the right choices and unfortunately still doesn’t now while stuck in (marmaris) struggling every day.
I have contacted the Turkish embassy to ask for help and possible deportation but there not willing to do this as this could be very stressful for my son. Due to Liam’s mental state at present. They also said Liam wouldn’t be able to fly on his own back to England without a medical professional with him. And this is why I’m asking for help to pay for court costs and any medical assistance that’s needed this is my last resort to try even harder then before to get my son home so that he can get the right support and help from family, friends but most importantly a medical assessment. Which I have already applied to the courts in turkey for this to happen by using a solicitor. Liam has been failed terribly by the mental health team and nhs services in England.
Any donations to help fund court costs, medical attention and possible doctor assistance to bring my son home would be hugely grateful.
Thankyou
