Allison's Memorial Fund
Donation protected
This is my niece, Allison.
She's 12.
In January 2021 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She fought hard with chemo over the past year. On January 30, 2022 my sister learned that the tumor had mutated to a "diffuse midline glioma with H3 K27M mutation". That's a "lethal high-grade pediatric brain tumor that is inoperable and without cure." Median life expectancy of 12-18 months.
Allison, the little hero, decided she would undergo surgery. She knew her neurologist would be able to obtain live cell samples if she elected for surgery. Most kids with this type of cancer pass away before live tissue samples can be obtained. She weighed the risks and elected for hope and altruism.
Surgery took place the morning of February 17, 2022. Despite all our hopes and prayers - there were complications. Allison fought hard, but did not regain meaningful brain activity. As I write this she is being screened for organ donation. She will go to the OR tomorrow and will continue to be a hero to so many through her gift.
If you can, please consider donating to Allison's cremation and celebration of life funds. Our family is devastated by her loss. My sister has been on FMLA for the better part of a year and would appreciate any kindness you might offer. Allison was a delight. She will be missed immensely. My only comfort is that she will live on in others.
If you are not able to donate, please consider becoming an organ donor yourself. So many people are in need.
"As I stumble through this life,
help me to create more laughter than tears,
dispense more cheer than gloom,
spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me become so indifferent,
that I will fail to see the wonders in the eyes of a child, or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Never let me forget that my total effort is to cheer people, make them happy, and forget momentarily,
all the unpleasantness in their lives.
And in my final moment,
may I hear You whisper:
“When you made My people smile,
you made Me smile.”
