RSV Medical Expenses for Kai & Cyrus

LATEST UPDATE: The boys are home and recovering, though some difficulties remain, and the trauma of the experience makes it a slow process. We found out that costs initially thought to be covered by insurance may not be covered after all. So the goal has shifted in response to the uncertainty of insurance coverage and ongoing recovery costs.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

Friends and Family,

This is Chris Whitenhill and I’m fundraising for the my nephews, Kai and Cyrus as they are working to recover from a difficult case of RSV.

After being transferred by an ambulance from his doctor's office and after being sent home by the ER the previous night, Kai was hospitalized for 5 days on oxygen support. A few days after Kai was admitted, Cyrus was taken by ambulance and hospitalized in the NICU as well. Gratefully, Kai was discharged yesterday. However, we are still waiting for Cyrus's discharge.

We believe and expect them to recover well. Still, they will face significant medical bills for the care the boys received, including Cyrus’ ongoing NICU stay, two pediatric stays, three ER visits, medicine costs, two ambulance rides, and monitoring visits after they leave the hospital.
